OUR COMMON FAITH - The Future Is Set
by Marilyn Gatrelle
The leaders of countries plot and scheme. They take counsel and decide what to do if this or that happens, how to make war and how to avoid war, who is an enemy and who is a friend. Yet, in all their high powered responsibilities they fret and worry at night just like the common man worries about paying his bills or how he'll put food on his family's table.
As Americans we worry about what's going on in Washington, how future generations will pay for policies set today. We talk and rally, rally and talk, vote them in, vote them out. But the Bible says: "Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket...All nations before Him are as nothing and worthless" Isaiah 40:15a,17. "For the kingdom is the Lord's and He rules over the nations" Psalm 22:28. God sets men in authority (Rom.13:1). He knows the future. He knows the plan and how to get there.
Psalm 2:4 is a very interesting verse. "He who is enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord shall hold them in derision (ridicule, mockery)." The NIV says "scoff at them." He doesn't laugh because He see all that's going on as funny. He laughs, maybe chuckles to Himself, because He knows how it's all going to turn out.
All the worrying, scheming, and counseling is for naught. As Christians our common faith should be to know He's got it all under control and let Him be the God that He is. We win in the end no matter what the world around us is doing.
