Our Common Faith - Pastors Need To Work Together

OUR COMMON FAITH - Pastors Need To Work Together
by Pastor Ron Gatrelle

There used to be an old TV show called "Father Knows Best." The program was a situation comedy built around the bottom line that dad knew how to best handle things. From the neighbors to the wife and kids, everyone depended on dad to see through any situation or crisis and do the right thing.

A pastor has a lot in common with a father. He knows the people in his church family very well, better than they know themselves. Because of this, the Pastor often finds himself in a position where doing the best thing will make him unpopular. Sometimes it may take years before an unpopular decision is proven right, but like father, pastor really does know best.

Most pastors know what it's like to discipline a church leader or parishioner because of some sin or fault known only to them, only to have such individuals leave, go somewhere else and spread untruth about them. Yet, many pastors seldom go to an individual's ex-pastor to check out the situation. Pastors need the support of other pastors. Pastors need to communicate more with each other, trust each other, and not be so quick to receive bad reports about each other. Why? Because pastor, like father, really does know best. Pastors should not only share a common faith but a common bond.
